    M.S. PROGRAM IN ECONOMICS

The Department of Economics, in addition to its noteworthy position in undergraduate education, in recent years has placed a special emphasis on expanding its graduate programs. Admission for graduate degrees is highly competitive and many candidates for academic positions in the Turkish Universities see entry through this fierce competition. Candidates for the Master's degree are from various backgrounds, but the majority of the students are from economics departments, who want to deepen their knowledge and analytical skills. So far, the Department has granted 120 M.S. degrees.

The Master's degree is made up of two alternative strands. One consists of seven courses, four of which are compulsory and involves the writing of a thesis. The other consists of ten courses plus a term project, with the same four compulsory courses. The compulsory courses consist of mathematics for economists, macroeconomic theory, microeconomic theory and econometrics.

A number of assistantships will be available to outstanding graduate students.
